Wall lights make a room feel warm and finished, but fitting a hardwired light means chasing cables into plaster and paying an electrician. If you rent, it's often not allowed at all. Rechargeable wall lights solve that: you get the look of a proper wall light with no wiring.
How rechargeable wall lights work
A rechargeable wall light has a built-in battery and an LED. You charge it with a USB cable (usually USB-C), then fit it to the wall. When the battery runs low, you lift the light off, or charge it where it hangs, and put it back.
Most have a touch control or a small remote, and many let you dim the light or switch between warm and neutral white.
How long does the battery last?
It depends on brightness. As a rough guide, a rechargeable wall light typically runs for around 4 to 10 hours per charge. On a low, cosy setting it will last much longer than on full brightness. If you use it for a couple of hours each evening, you'll usually only need to charge it every few days.

How to fit one without drilling (or with very little)
- Magnetic mounts: a small metal plate fixes to the wall and the light clicks on and off magnetically. It's the easiest option for charging.
- Adhesive pads: good for smooth, painted walls and tiles. Clean the wall first and press firmly for 30 seconds.
- Two small screws: the most secure option, and easy to fill if you move out.
Where rechargeable wall lights look best
- Either side of the bed: the classic hotel look, and it frees up bedside table space.
- Above a sofa or reading chair: a soft pool of light for evenings, without switching on the big light.
- Hallways and landings: a gentle night light that makes a narrow space feel bigger.
- Either side of a mirror or artwork: adds depth and draws the eye.
Rechargeable vs plug-in vs hardwired
- Rechargeable: no cables, no electrician, fit it anywhere. You need to recharge it.
- Plug-in: no electrician, never needs charging. You'll have a visible cable (a fabric cable can look great).
- Hardwired: the cleanest look and always on the light switch. It must be installed by a qualified electrician.
Tips for the best result
- Choose warm white (2700K to 3000K) for living rooms and bedrooms.
- Hang wall lights at roughly eye height when seated, or around 60cm above the mattress beside a bed.
- Use them in pairs for a balanced, finished look.
